Review: PetSafe Treat and Train Remote Reward Dog Trainer

Having the right dog training equipment is essential to effective training. The PetSafe Treat and Train is a remote dog training aid that allows you to reward your pet from up to 30 yards away.

Reward-based dog training is an incredibly effective dog training method. Most owners use this method when doing command training or trick training with their pup.

Certain types of training, like command training, keep you in close proximity to your dog most of the time. Other types of training, like agility training, may cause you to be quite a ways away from your pet when he has earned a reward.

The Treat and Train Remote Reward Dog Trainer is an electronic device that allows you to treat your pet with the push of a button. I found it to be especially helpful when traying my dog to ‘stay'.

PetSafe Treat and Train Remote Reward Dog Trainer Review

PetSafe Treat and TrainAs you can see in my video review above, this device dispenses kibble or treats from up to 30 yards away. When your dog does what is expected during his training session, you just push the button on the remote and your dog will hear the sound and be rewarded with a treat.

You may be wondering why you would need to instantly reward your dog. Why can't he wait for a few seconds while you walk over to him?

Reward training works best when you immediately reinforce the desired behavior at the moment that it happens.

The Treat and Train is lightweight and portable for use anywhere. It's easy to take with you for an outdoor training session or to bring along while traveling.

It comes with an adjustable target and features different tone settings to alert your pet when his treat is available. In my video guide I also show the interchangeable food disk that allows for the use of small or large kibble (or training treats).

The PetSafe Treat and Train is available on Amazon for $189.95. That's obviously not a price tag that will fit into everyone's budget.

If you train a lot of dogs or have frequent training sessions with your pet, the Treat and Train may be a good investment. However, if you only have one dog and you're just doing a little bit of command training with him, you'd be better off buying a different training aid.

This product is definitely effective and well made. It would certainly be worth the money if you would use it a lot. It's a bit to expensive for the average pet owner, but it would be a good value for the money if you'll using it for a long period of time.
