A dog was finally reunited with its owners when kayakers spotted it at Guernsey’s south coast cliffs 24 hours after going missing on June 3, 2023.

The rescue, which was called off overnight, resumed before 12:00 BST after a potential sighting was reported.

It took 90 minutes to get Albie, the Cocker Spaniel dog, to safety and reunited with its owners, who were also at the scene.

Albie was sighted by kayakers between the Icart and La Jaonnets Bay on the night of June 4.

The coastguards quickly responded to the scene along with the cliff rescue team and GSPCA (Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

The fire brigade and some members of the public also went to the rescue location.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne told the Island FM in an interview that “the owners were overwhelmed.

The organization also thanked the rescue teams involved, who are mostly volunteers.

“…what a wonderful, caring island we have here in Guernsey for dogs and how happy everybody is to see him safe and sound and back home again,” he adds.
